About Happy Valley Tea Estate

Established in 1854 and among the oldest gardens in Darjeeling, Happy Valley sits about three kilometres from Chowrasta and is the most accessible estate for visitors. During plucking season (roughly March to November) you can walk the terraces, watch the withering, rolling and drying floors in the factory, and taste first- and second-flush Darjeeling at source. Outside season the factory is quiet and the walk is still lovely.

Insider tips

  • Closed Mondays; the factory only runs during plucking season
  • Second flush (May–June) is the most prized harvest to taste
  • It is downhill from town — pleasant going, a stiff climb back
