About Brindavan Gardens

Laid out in the 1920s and 30s below the Krishna Raja Sagara dam, Brindavan is a symmetrical terraced garden in the Mughal manner — parterres, topiary, fountains and lit water channels. The draw is the evening musical fountain, when the water is choreographed to music and coloured light. It is a nostalgic, slightly faded attraction rather than a manicured modern one, and it is best treated in that spirit. Roughly 21 km from Mysuru.

Insider tips

  • The whole point is the evening fountain — a daytime visit misses it
  • Weekend evenings are extremely crowded; go on a weekday
  • Getting back to Mysuru after the show is easier with a pre-booked taxi
